The ingredients needed to make Steamed Sweet Dumplings:
- Provide For filling
- Prepare 2 cups chana dal (split bengal gram)
- Prepare 2 cups sugar
- Use 6 cups water
- Use 1/4 tsp nutmeg/cardammom powder
- Prepare For the dough
- Use 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
- Provide as needed water
- Use as needed oil for greasing
Steps to make Steamed Sweet Dumplings:
- Combine the flour with enough water and knead into a semi-stiff dough. Cover and keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes. Divide into equal portions.
- For the filling : Pressure cook the chana dal on low heat till 5 to 6 whistles.
- When the pressure settles down open the cooker and drain off the water completely.
- Then mash the dal properly. Add sugar and cook stirring continuously till the mixture thickens and starts to separate in the pan.
- Remove from heat and add nutmeg powder or cardamom powder.

- Heat the steamer/pressure cooker without weight, grease a flat vessel.
- Add the sweet dumplings in the greased vessel.
- Place it into the steamer/pressure cooker and cook for 15 minutes on a medium flame.
